Jen Devor is a South Philly block captain, public school advocate, voting enthusiast, and a published author on civic engagement. She is the president and co-founder of Better Civics, a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to revolutionizing civic engagement and voter turnout through education. Better Civics works with community partners to create tools and resources that better explain how government works and to encourage individuals to be more civically engaged. In addition to her role with Better Civics, Jen also consults with companies and organizations on community outreach and civic programming.
Jen was a 2019 candidate for City Commissioner, the office that oversees election activity in Philadelphia. She ran a great race, and was endorsed by a variety of organizations including the Philadelphia Inquirer, National Organization for Women, and Run for Something.
Throughout her career, she has worked with some of Philadelphia’s top civic organizations, including The Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, Amplify Philly, Campus Philly, Diversified Community Services, Neighbors Investing in Childs Elementary, and Committee of Seventy among others. Currently, Jen serves on the Advisory Boards of WHYY, PA Youth Vote, DiSilvestro Recreation Center, and Vote16USA, a national nonpartisan effort to lower the voting age.
Jen holds a BS in Media and Communications from the University of the Arts. She is also an alumnus of The Center for Progressive Leadership, The Citizen Planning Insititute, and several leadership programs including EMILY’S List’s Run to Win, Chatham University’s Ready to Run and Run For Something’s candidate training. She lives in Point Breeze with her husband, Tivoni and together they have a young daughter, Ava who attends their local public school and has been canvassing since she was a newborn.
