YOUNG INVOLVED PHILADELPHIA’S ANNUAL STATE OF YOUNG PHILLY (SOYP) WILL ENCOURAGE PHILADELPHIANS TO CONTINUE HELPING EACH OTHER AND BUILDING COMMUNITY TIES AFTER A TRYING YEAR

Philadelphia – Young Involved Philadelphia returns with its annual civic engagement event series State of Young Philly this October. Events will run from October 8-23 and will focus on how we can help our neighbors and effect positive change in Philadelphia.

Every fall, YIP hosts SOYP to promote civic engagement and connect young Philadelphians with organizations, policymakers, and leaders across the city. This year’s theme, “Philly Helping Philly,” was selected with input from YIP members at an Ideas Forum in the spring. “The theme was inspired by all the ways Philadelphians have stepped in to help each other during the struggles of the last year and aims to provide a roadmap for how we can continue showing up for each other and making positive change in our communities,” said YIP President Morgan Robinson.

From neighborhood beautification events to panel discussions about the arts in Philadelphia to workshops on grant writing, this year’s lineup of partner events promises to be both educational and impactful. There will be in-person and virtual event offerings to ensure that everyone can participate at a level that is personally comfortable, and COVID safety protocols will be followed for all in-person events.

Partners include The League of Women Voters of Philadelphia, the office of Councilmember Isaiah Thomas, Women in Transition, Bethesda Project, The Spruce Foundation, SEAMAAC, and The Anti-Violence Partnership (AVP).

State of Young Philly 2021 will kick off with a happy hour celebration on Friday, October 8th from 6-8pm at Dahlak in West Philadelphia. More information about the full lineup of events and registration can be found at https://www.younginvolvedphila.org/yip-events.
